Alexander J. Travis, VMD, PHD

Co-Founder and Chief Scientific Officer
“Dr. Travis is a world leader in the research of capacitation and author of over 50 scientific publications, and numerous scientific abstracts and presentations on human sperm function.“

Dr. Alex Travis is the co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer for Androvia LifeSciences. An associate professor at Cornell University, Dr. Travis is a world leader in the research of capacitation and directs a laboratory focused on the investigation of sperm, fertilization, and new technologies of assisted reproduction. His research was the first to link patterns of GM1 localization with capacitation status, identifying it as a biomarker for sperm fertilizing ability. This laid the groundwork for Androvia’s laboratory-developed test, the Cap-Score™ Sperm Function Test. Dr. Travis is the corresponding author on Androvia’s publication, “Localization patterns of the ganglioside GM1 in human sperm are indicative of male fertility and independent of traditional semen measures” and a co-author on, “Validation of a laboratory developed test of human sperm capacitation” (both published in Molecular Reproduction and Development 2017). Dr. Travis is a frequent speaker at major scientific conferences including the American Society of Andrology, the American Urological Association, and the Gordon Conference on Fertilization. He has also been the author of over 50 scientific publications, and numerous scientific abstracts and poster presentations on sperm function.

Dr. Travis graduated from Princeton University magna cum laude. He received a diploma in Reproductive Science from Monash University under a Rotary Graduate Fellowship. Dr. Travis received both his VMD and PhD at the University of Pennsylvania, from which he graduated summa cum laude with the Leonard Pearson Prize, the veterinary school’s highest honor. Among other awards, he was the first veterinarian to ever receive a Pioneer Award from the National Institutes of Health and he has received the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activities.
